I'm on the laissez-faire side of the nanotech regulation debate. But I'd like to point out that if regulation is necessary it will have to be applied before any robust technology is released to the public. Once it's out there, it's out there for good.

Murray Rothbard had some general comments about this issue. If men are basically good, then there is no problem. However, if men are basically evil, then what is the sense of putting one man in charge of all others?

Open source is the way to go.

The only long term solution to this problem is the dispersal of civilization through out the galaxy. Of course, molecular manufacturing ought to make space develop easier and cheaper than it is now.
