The greatest threat to my personal safety? I would say a motor vehicle accident, cancer or heart disease.

That poll is definitely testing perceptions, not rational fears. How many people do you know who died of terrorism, tsunamis, bird flu, Ebola or nuclear war?

Threats to civilization as a whole would definitely be nuclear war or bio/nano weapons several decades in the future. That really scares me. None of the others really cut it as a candidate for the end of the world, I think. :-)

The US government has done an excellent job of overblowing a threat that is nearly non-existant up to bizarre levels. Every rational person would have to call this behaviour irresponsible at best, especially when they are doing their best to actually increase this threat to match perception and reality. Considering this, I'd go for calling it malicious instead.
