I'm typing this from a hotel room in Seattle, Washington. Just got done with the first day of the NIAC conference. For those just joining us, NIAC stands for NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts, and they gave me a small grant to study how to make large products from nanoscale blocks. Part of the grant involves attending this kickoff conference.
The day was full of presentations on various advanced projects, such as improved space suits, aircraft and balloons for exploring other planets, and large weather-sensing networks.
The last event was a poster session at which the new NIAC grantees presented our plans. Quite a few people stopped by, and I got lots of good questions--but no one questioned the basic feasibility of molecular manufacturing. That was refreshing! I also made several good contacts for further research.
Tomorrow, after the second day of this conference, I have to run catch a redeye flight to the other Washington, for the Foresight conference. I'm giving two talks on Saturday: one on clean molecular manufacturing, the other on the top ten impacts of molecular manufacturing.
Also tomorrow is the start of the conference in Brazil that Mike is speaking at.
I'd like to write more, but I'm jet-lagged. CRN is fun... but it's not always easy.
Chris
I can't wait to find out what the top ten impacts of MM are.
