Fueling the Future

Ronald Bailey, science correspondent for Reason magazine, is one of my favorite reporters. I don't always agree with his conclusions, but his articles are carefully researched and, yes, deeply reasoned.

His latest piece fits in nicely with recent discussions we've had on this blog about cars of the future and the probable end of cheap oil. It's titled:

Cheap Dirty Fuels Versus Costly Clean Fuels
Which will win the race to fuel the future?

Ron takes a look at the pros and cons (mostly cons) of tar sands, oil shale, and turning coal into liquid fuel. He considers alternative fuel approaches like bioethanol, hydrogen, electricity, and more.

Instead of quoting and commenting, I'll just encourage you to read it for yourself. It's a good one. Oh, and hat tip to The Speculist.
