The Great Firewall of China
We've heard before that the Chinese government was blocking access to this and many other blogs, including virtually everything using the Typepad.com service (which we employ). We'd been told by sources in China that they could not read our blog there. That's a shame.
Today we discovered that the same censorship apparently is being applied to CRN's main website -- www.crnano.org -- in addition to our blog. How do we know this? By testing our URL via greatfirewallofchina.org.
About greatfirewallofchina.org:We are a non-profit group of creatives such as web designers, documentary film directors and journalists who want to make the censorship system transparent and keep open the discussion on censorship. Our aim is is to be a watchdog and keep track of which and how many or how many times sites are censored. Help to keep the censorship transparent. Each blocked website will automatically be added to the great firewall on the homepage.
Censorship, in almost every conceivable circumstance, is wrong and dangerous. We applaud the efforts of this organization and others to make those systems transparent.
