There are bright spots though. I was surprised to learn one of the synchrotrons presently under construction is in Jordan. Now I'm reading that a key grain research center is in Syria (biggest donor is USA).

If you count the Philippines and Indonesia as part of the Muslim (but not Arab) world, the future may be bright; I think both will benefit from inclusion in any regional trade blocks. Maybe the same for Pakistan if it remains China's close ally. Don't expect too many research papers outputted from University of Baghdad in the years ahead though; their lax curriculum is killer.
