An interesting -- and potentially quite important -- debate on "global administration of advanced nanotechnology" got underway on the Wise-Nano.org site last fall.
Sooner or later, this question will demand an answer. Probably sooner.
CRN expects that improved understanding of the steps required to achieve general-purpose molecular manufacturing, together with growing recognition of its disruptive nature and severe societal and environmental implications, is likely to trigger a public debate about the need for global administration within the next few years.
It is wise, then, for people who already have a reasonably clear understanding of the issues involved to begin exploring all the alternatives and the SWOT -- Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats -- presented by various proposed approaches.
